PIGMENTS ARE COLOURING SUBSTANCES MADE INTO EXTREMLY THIN INSOLUBLE PARTICLES. THE COLOURING EFFECT TAKES PLACE BY THE DISPERSION OF THE PIGMENT IN THE MEDIUM TO BE COLOURED, WITH A COVERING EFFECT.
With pigments, the colouring power depends on the size of the particles: the finer they are ground, the higher the colouring power and the lower the quantity of product to be used. Depending on their origins, they are divided into Organic and Inorganic pigments. Pigments are marked by a high degree of lightfastness.

Wood Stain - Mordants

 

The series of MORDANTS for WOOD is based on a natural ingredient (KASSEL EARTH), and is made up of non-toxic colourings with a low environmental impactUsing a mordant ensures :

Instructions:

Dissolve the product in lukewarm water until the desired colour concentration is reached (on average 40g/lt). Clean the surface to be dyed using fine-grained sandpaper. Apply the mordant solution with a brush in the direction of the wood’s grain and then, using a damp sponge, spread the product evenly. Once the wood is dry, complete the process with the chosen finish: wax, shellac or transparent varnish. The finish protects the wood and improves the resistance to light.

Colourings from this product line were selected on the basis of strict tests. They ensure both easy use and good general resistance qualities.
The lightfastness has been determined according to the UNI EN ISO 105-B01:2002 regulations, on non-coated samples, using alcohol-based solutions containing 20gr/l of colouring. The top coating usually increases the lightfastness.

Instructions

Pure and blended colourings must be dissolved in possibly purified alcohol until the desired intensity is obtained.
Then proceed with the dying process using your system of choice (immersion, spray, brush, wad, etc.).

- high lightfastness
- resistance to water drops on the leather
- good drying speed

Application methods for testing on leather:

Prepare a dispersion of : 
XYLODERM® 5 -10 %
demineralised water*  50 - 60 %
water-based resin up to 30 %

In order to increase the conservation it is advisable to dilute in a water-based solution with 5-10% of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EINECS 203-961-6 CAS 112-34-5) .
The XYLODERM® LB series blends are VOC-free, in line with the provisions of the European Directive 1999/13/CE

The CROMOXYL® series of colourings is made up of a selection of type 1:2 sulphonated premetallized colourings, especially suited for dyeing wood.
Their features are :

- Easy to use
- High lightfastness
- Good surface penetration
- Good compatibility with normally employed additives

THE CROMOXYL® colourings have good stability with peroxide-based varnishes. Since this property is strongly affected by the type of varnish and the operating conditions, it is advisable to carry out tests in order to ascertain the suitability of the product.
If dying wood that has been bleached with hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydrosulphite, sodium hypochlorite, etc. , it is advisable to wash the item carefully before applying the dye.
The usage pH can go from 5 to 9. The presence of ammonia can slightly change the colour hue, which in any case will remain stable over time.

- Concentrated aqueous solution coding /L
- Concentrated solution in a solvent mixture coding /LD or /LND
- Powder/granules with a low content of Inorganic Salts (< 1%) coding /C

The CROMOXYL® colourings are used in wood dyeing with water-based, glycol ether-based and ketone-based solutions and various blends of these solutions.
The presence of organic solvents, besides speeding up the drying process, increases the brightness of the colour.
THE CROMOXYL® products with a /C coding are marked by a high concentration of dye and a low content of inorganic salts and insoluble substances. They can be easily blended with the organic solvents listed above and then applied: by immersion, with a brush, with a wad, by spraying or printing.
